We are seeking to recruit a Specimen Reception Assistant (SRA) to work within the Blood Science Department at Bedford Hospital. Previous experience of working within a laboratory environment is not necessary as full training will be provided, however previous experience of dealing with the public would be advantageous. The ability to be flexible with working hours is essential. The department is housed in a state of the art purpose built Pathology Block.

This post will enable you to gain wide experience in pathology (Blood Sciences) from specimen reception through to supporting the Biomedical Scientists with processing requests.

The role will include the labelling of patient samples with barcodes, correctly entering patient demographics and test codes into the departments Laboratory Information System, dealing with telephone/face to face enquiries and various laboratory related duties including basic laboratory techniques, preparation of laboratory reagents and stock control.

You will be required to participate in the out-of- hour service that covers 08:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday and weekend/bank holiday working. The shift rota will attract the associated unsocial hour payments.

Concentration and attention to detail are essential to the role.

You must possess English and Numeracy skills to at least GCSE standards. Experience in data entry would be advantageous although full training will be provided
