Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist Fixed Term

The Amputee Rehabilitation Unit is based in Kennington South London at the Lambeth Community Care Centre, and is part of the Community Directorate of Guys and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting Band 6 Fixed Term position covering maternity leave has arisen for someone with a genuine and proven enthusiasm for amputee rehabilitation. Fixed term, secondment or acting up will be considered. The likely duration is 12 months

The team consists of the ARU Clinical Lead, prosthetist, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, counsellors, rehabilitation assistants, ward clerk, medics, pharmacist, discharge coordinator and nursing staff. The amputee physiotherapy team is currently lead by a band 7 physiotherapist, with support from the ARU Clinical Lead. Band 5 physiotherapists rotate from the main GSTT physiotherapy department every 4 months.

The successful candidate will be required to be an excellent communicator and organiser and have the skills to be able to lead the team in the absence of the Band 7.

The successful candidate will have plenty of opportunities with regards to training and development. We hold weekly in service training, which is both uni and multi professional. We strongly encourage self directed learning.

We have close links with the physiotherapy departments at both GSTT, Kings College Hospital and the specialist outpatient amputee hub: Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre.

The amputee physiotherapy team provides assessment, prosthetic and non prosthetic rehabilitation for lower limb, upper limb, unilateral and multiple limb loss amputees. We have a strong MDT ethos and believe that every patient matters. The prosthetic service is currently contracted to Chas A Blatchford & Sons and you are expected to work closely with their members of staff who provide a prosthetic clinic twice per week.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who is already working at or working towards Band 6 level and has specific experience working with lower limb amputees in the acute and or rehabilitation setting.

Prosthetic rehabilitation experience is preferable. You will have completed rotations in all core Band 5 rotations relating to amputee rehabilitation.

You will have experience supervising and teaching Band 5 and other junior staff.

You may be required to work cross site at Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre and you will join the Saturday rota at the ARU, as we provide a 6 day a week therapy service.

Closing date: 27th April 2018 at midnight.
Date of Interview: Thursday 10th May, held at the Amputee Rehabilitation Unit, Lambeth Community Care Centre, Monkton Street, SE11 4TX.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
