Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist (Band 5)

Guys and St Thomas' are looking for a Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join our team in the heart of Central London. Our hospitals are based on the Thames with views of Parliament, the London eye and right underneath the Shard.

The hospitals could not be in a better location to enjoy the city and are within walking distance of all that London has to offer. GSTT has a reputation for being an employer of choice, with development opportunities and an ever dynamic working environment and opportunities for professional growth.

We are a Mortuary that is fortunate enough to have over the years built up multiple post mortem examination specialities including but not limited to Paediatric and Perinatal, Forensic Paediatrics, Maternal Deaths, Sickle Cell Disease, High Risk cases including and specialising in Tropical Diseases and Individual Chemical Exposures. Carrying out 1200+ post mortems examinations p.a. on GSTT patients and on behalf of several other hospitals, Coroner's jurisdictions and Police forces from across the country.

The post holder will provide a leadership and training role within a team of both well established and trainee staff and APTs, monitoring and maintaining the highest quality service as well as supporting the senior management team in driving service developments.

The candidate we are looking for will need to hold the Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or the level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology with relevant, extensive, demonstrable experience in both routine and High-Risk post mortem cases. Preferably experience in paediatric/perinatal post mortem cases however this is not essential as training can be given.

You will enjoy training and lecturing and possess a good working knowledge of the HTA Codes of Practice. To be the right person for this post you will thrive on working in a fast paced environment and enjoy the challenge of adapting to changing priorities and be a natural team player.   We are also a leading HTA Licensed and BSI accredited Mortuary and Bereavement Service, part of Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest and leading hospital trusts in the country.

Applicant requirements

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
