Evelina London Children’s Hospital at Guy’s & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust

The Evelina London Children’s Hospital is one of the leading children’s hospitals in the UK and a premier paediatric cardiac centre. The Evelina Children’s Hospital is part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest hospital trusts in the country, with a staff of over 9,500, a turnover of over £600 million and ¾ million patient contacts a year. Guy’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital are two of London’s oldest and best known teaching hospitals, dating back almost 900 years, and have been at the forefront of medical progress and innovation since they were founded. The Evelina, although less well known to the general public, has an equally long and distinguished history dating back to its foundation in the 19th century. The Paediatric Cardiac service at the Evelina was formerly located within Guy’s Hospital and has a proud history of clinical innovation and “world firsts” in the field of Paediatric Cardiology. Since the move in 2005 to our purpose built, award winning new building, Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac surgery at the Evelina has continued this long tradition for excellence and innovation. Our cardiac program manages the full spectrum of congenital heart problems on one campus and provides continuous care from the foetus (Fetal Cardiology Unit, Evelina), through childhood (Paediatric Cardiology, Evelina) into adult life (Grown Up Congenital Heart - GUCH at St. Thomas’ Hospital). Many of our patients are referred from a network of regional hospitals but, due to the highly specialised services we offer, patients may also come from other UK centres or from abroad for treatment and surgery at the Evelina. Because of this diverse referral pattern, the case mix seen at the Evelina is extremely varied and often clinically very challenging.

The post holder will be required to perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) on both outpatients and inpatients including adults, children and neonates. You will be responsible for the application and removal of ambulatory ECGs and blood pressure monitors. You will work along side the Cardiac Physiologists assisting them with exercise tolerance testing and also will be expected to support the Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiac Nurses as necessary. You will be required to participate in the in-house training programme to develop a working knowledge and understanding on how to perform ECGs.  There will be an element of administration attached to this role.

Applicant requirements

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
