Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham, as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic and cardiovascular services.

Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

The commitment of our 17,100 staff is key to our success. We are one of the largest local employers and we aim to develop and support all our staff so they are able to deliver high quality, safe and efficient care. The 2018 NHS staff survey results show that we have one of the most engaged and motivated workforces in the NHS. We know this has a positive impact on the care provided to our patients.

Did you know that across the river from the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben there is a world-class, internationally recognised children’s hospital, Evelina London?

We are one of two comprehensive children’s hospitals in London, and are proud to be the first children’s hospital awarded ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Based on the site of the historic St Thomas’ Hospital, Evelina London Children’s Hospital offers child and family-centred care in an award-winning environment. As part of the Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, we have been at the forefront of nursing since Florence Nightingale established her first nursing school at St Thomas’ Hospital in 1859.

Evelina London has built on these traditions and continues to have a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are part of King’s Health Partners, a pioneering collaboration between one of the world’s leading research-led universities and London’s most successful NHS Foundation Trusts.

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative nurse leader to lead the surgical nursing team and clinical nurse specialists as Matron for Children’s Surgery.

By leading the nursing teams of our surgical services you will have a key role in the strategic development of services, ensuring that we are fit for the future and continue to deliver high quality care.

As an excellent clinical role model we anticipate that you will be highly visible and proactive in supporting the Ward Managers in the leadership of their wards, ensuring optimal patient safety and experience.

As Surgical Matron you will lead a portfolio of services which includes spinal, orthopaedic, plastics, ENT and general surgery.

This post is maternity leave cover of at least one year, dates to be confirmed.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
