This is a replacement post arising from the previous holder leaving the Trust at the end their tenure. This is a post designed for a Surgeon who plans to complete their higher training but who would like the opportunity to extend their surgical experience in cleft care before taking up a Consultant post.

The South Thames Cleft Service provides both outpatient and in-patient services at GSTT over two sites at Guys Hospital and St. Thomas' Hospital (where Evelina Children's Hospital is based) and outpatient services in outreach clinics across the South East of England specifically at Brighton, Canterbury, East Grinstead, Guildford, Medway and Worthing. This is the regional centre for Cleft Surgery for South East England and the network's clinical HQ serving a population of 7 million. Approximately 130-150 new babies with clefts are referred annually, in addition to older adult patients and those with Velopharyngeal deficiency (VPD).

This role is intended to give a Surgeon wide exposure to the full complement of skills required by a Cleft Surgeon in a multidisciplinary cleft team managing its’ patients clinical concerns to the fullest. This role is ideally suited to a candidate who wishes to be fully integrated into a multidisciplinary cleft lip and palate team.

Applicants would usually be expected to be from a Maxillo-Facial or Plastics background or have experience of working in head and neck surgical specialities. The post is initially for 6 months with the desire for extension to suit the service and the candidate as best as possible. This post holder will be encouraged to participate in the on-call rota for their primary speciality, if available and the successful candidate would need to arrange that themselves with local service providers.

Closing date: 27/10/2018 midnight.
Interview date: TBC.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
