Join us and become part of the most engaged workforce of any NHS trust in England, according to the latest national NHS Staff Survey results – for the second year running.

You will be joining a dynamic and forward-looking organisation in the heart of the capital where you can develop your career and broaden your horizons.

We think you will enjoy working for us but you don’t have to take our word for it – 79% of staff who took part in the latest national NHS Staff Survey would recommend Guy’s and St Thomas’ as a place to work.

Senior Specialist Speech & Language Therapist – Lane Fox Respiratory Unit

Our critical care service at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is expanding and we are therefore looking for a dynamic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team.  This is a full-time position to cover the Lane Fox Respiratory Weaning and REMEO Units and will join our existing inpatient team of 15.8 WTE SLTs and 1.5 WTE SLT assistants.

You will be based at St Thomas' Hospital and will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to adult inpatients with communication and/or swallowing disorders on the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit, with cover to the REMEO unit in Redhill, Surrey.

Suitable applicants will have experience of working at a post-graduate level, independently managing adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, and patients who have tracheostomies and may also be ventilator dependent.  Experience of instrumental assessment is essential. You will be responsible for supervising a junior colleague on the acute wards so leadership experience is desirable. Teaching is a significant part of the role and you will participate in nurse/medical education and provide external talks and presentations as needed.

There is a strong ethos of clinical support, supervision and development within the team. The service is able to offer you excellent supervision and peer support, with an emphasis on team working.  Quality improvement projects and research ideas are strongly encouraged, both within SLT and in the multi-professional teams. We have regular team meetings, plus opportunities for continuing professional development through in-house training, clinical excellence networks and external courses.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
