Our secretarial staff are vital to the smooth running of the services we provide and each and every one of them make a huge difference to the visitors to our hospital based in Westminster.

We are currently recruiting a full time Medical Secretary to assist us in providing high quality support to consultants and clinical teams within the ENT Department based at Guy's Hospital.

You will provide a full secretarial service, including audio typing letters, knowledge of medical terminology, taking minutes, filing, collecting patient notes and acting as the first point of contact for patients and other professionals contacting or visiting to the department.

You will also be the central point for information and communication for the clinical team.

You will have excellent organisational, communication and IT skills and will be passionate about providing a high quality customer service to your patients and colleagues.

In addition, working in a team based environment, and the ability to deal with the sensitive nature of the work are essential.

Ideally you will have AMSPAR or an equivalent Medical Secretarial qualification. Experience of PiMs, EPR and Bighand are highly desirable. Typing speed of 50wpm minimum is essential.

The role requires the ability to liaise with all disciplines of staff i.e. Directorate Managers, Consultants, Nurses and administrative colleagues, work well as part of a team, to be professional and personable at all times, able to multi-task as well as being able to work under pressure.

Candidates must be flexible to the needs of the service, attend meetings as and when necessary and have excellent communication skills.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
