Not sure what you are doing in August 2018? Feeling you need time to evaluate your future but want to work and want to do something that makes your CV stronger?

We recognise that there is a lot of uncertainty and hope that we can help. Clinical time spend in an Emergency Department is always useful and can help you become a more decisive and experienced clinician. We are particularly keen to develop doctors who are interested in Emergency Medicine as a career who may be taking EM exams and /or trying to get into formal EM training. However lots of future careers can be viewed through Emergency Medicine and we are happy to help you develop skills and connections in all areas.  The EM team is friendly, hardworking and very supportive. The department was rated as Outstanding by the CQC in March 2016. We strive to deliver great patient care by working together as a great team.  Each post is for 6 months or 1 year with the very likely possibility of an extension.

These posts will give you some non-shop floor time. You will have the equivalent of 2 days a fortnight to follow a special interest such as gain some experience in another field, complete a QIP or teach. We are open to negotiation if you have a particular project you are burning to do.  Atypical, flexible or individualised rotas are possible as long as you make a significant contribution to weekends and Out of Hours work.

The post holders will participate in a middle tier of doctors- supervised by more senior trainees and help supervise FY2s. You will never be ‘in charge’ of the department so have a chance to learn and gain experience in a safe if busy environment. The Emergency Department is led by 18 Adult and 4 Paediatric Emergency Consultants. The physical environment is new and shiny having just been rebuilt.  The Department sees over 138,000 new patients per annum and has a 16 bed Clinical Decision Unit and a separate Paediatric Emergency Department.  We have a highly diverse patient population who will challenge and enhance your clinical skills. We are near many major cultural attractions and receive patients from many central London events such as the London Marathon.

Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC and have a proven record of experience in Emergency Medicine. Applicants should have at least 1 year experience post registration

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
