Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

The commitment of our 17,100 staff is key to our success. We are one of the largest local employers and we aim to develop and support all our staff so they are able to deliver high quality, safe and efficient care. The 2018 NHS staff survey results show that we have one of the most engaged and motivated workforces in the NHS. We know this has a positive impact on the care provided to our patients.

Specialty Doctor in Fetal Cardiology

From £39,060 to 72,840 p.a excl. of LZ

Full Time – 40 hours per week

Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London’s best known teaching hospitals. It employs over 13,650 staff with an annual turnover of £1.3 billion and over 2 million patient contacts a year. The hospitals have a long history, dating back almost 900 years, and have been at the forefront of medical progress and innovation since they were founded. Both hospitals have built on these traditions and continue to have a reputation for excellence and innovation.

Evelina London Children’s Healthcare

Evelina London Children‘s Healthcare (ELCH) brings together Guy‘s and St Thomas‘ NHS Foundation Trust‘s (GSTT) services for children in both our state of the art hospital and community services within Lambeth and Southwark. We have an annual turnover of £170 million and over 2,000 staff. Last year children‘s services at GSTT delivered 125,000 outpatient appointments and 26,000 children were admitted and cared for in the children‘s hospital.

ELCH is the second largest provider of acute (hospital) children‘s services in London. We provide children‘s hospital services (secondary acute services) to the local area and an almost comprehensive portfolio of tertiary services (we take referrals from other healthcare organisations such as local or district hospitals) to south London and south east England. We also provide specialist and universal children‘s community services to the communities in Lambeth and Southwark.

Fetal cardiology Service

The fetal cardiology service at Evelina London Children’s Hospital is one of the largest in the UK and internationally. The unit has an extensive referral pattern, receiving patients from 50 different obstetric units. Clinics are located both at ELCH and King’s College Hospital (Harris Birthright). Approximately 2000 pregnant women are scanned each year at ELCH and 1400 at King’s. Across the sites over 250 cases of fetal congenital heart disease are diagnosed and managed. Around 150 are transferred for delivery at the St Thomas site. The postholder would be expected to undertake clinical work at both sites.

The unit functions as a multidisciplinary team. There are 6 fetal cardiology consultants within the department, three clinical nurse specialists, four sonographers and 2 administrative staff.

All clinics are consultant led and all abnormal cases are scanned and reviewed by a consultant. Where clinically appropriate, babies with congenital heart defects are delivered at St Thomas’ Hospital for immediate postnatal treatment.
