Guy’s & St. Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust

Genetic Counsellor: Band 7 Full time, Permanent

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and confident Genetic Counsellor to join our dynamic genetic counselling team. Applicants must have a recognised genetic counselling qualification (MSc) and GCRB Registration.  Applicants who have sufficient experience and the appropriate qualifications to be eligible to work towards GCRB registration are also encouraged.

The post holder will have an autonomous caseload covering both general and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) genetics.  Relevant training will be given to applicants without experience in PGD. Whilst based at Guy’s Hospital, the post holder will be required to cover outreach clinics at Kent and East Sussex so must be able to travel either by public or own transport.  The post holder will work as part of a strong multidisciplinary team and be required to interact with other specialties across the Trust and nationally. The genetic counselling team at Guy’s is progressive and well regarded both within the Trust and nationally.

The Department of Clinical Genetics provides a comprehensive clinical and diagnostic service to a population of nearly 5 million in South London, Kent and East Sussex. We are also a designated Genomic Medicine Centre as part of the 100,000 Genome Project. The team of Genetic Counsellors and Nurses constitute a key part of this busy service.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
