Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

We are looking for a speech and language therapist experienced in the assessment and management of paediatric dysphagia and complex communication disorders (including the use of AAC), to be part of an inpatient SLT service at the Evelina London Children's Hospital. The post holder will take a lead on the critical care unit.  There may be opportunities to participate in specialist mulitdisciplinary outpatient clinics.

The Children's Acute Speech and Language Therapy Service is based in Children's Neurosciences and provides a service across all paediatric medical specialties. The  team consists of Specialist, Highly Specialist and Clinical Specialist SLTs. Strategic leadership is provided by a Consultant SLT.

The postholder will take responsibility for delivering a high quality speech and language therapy service to paediatric inpatients, primarily infants and children with congenital/acquired disorders of swallowing and communication, including tracheostomy. The postholder will also provide highly specialist input to multidisciplinary outpatient clinics.

The service provides a videofluoroscopic swallow study service to in- and out-patients. The postholder will be required to lead VF studies, after being enrolled in a VF competency programme.

The Children's Acute SLT Service has links with other SLT teams within Evelina London Children's Healthcare, including Cleft, Auditory Implant and Community Services. We have an active CPD programme, and supervision will be provided by one of the Team Lead SLTs .

The postholder will be involved in the delivery of training to SLT students, nurses, doctors and other AHPs.
