Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

Wheelchair Services – Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist/ Physiotherapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join the team at Guys and St Thomas’ Wheelchair Service.  The Wheelchair Service which is part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust provides a comprehensive wheelchair, posture and seating service to the local population of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.  The successful applicant will join our established multidisciplinary team which includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Technical Instructors, Rehabilitation Engineers, Administrators and a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine.  The service is primarily provided through clinics at the Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre, Crystal Palace, though community visits are also required.

Previous wheelchair service experience is not essential but a clinical background in either neurology, paediatrics or community work would be appropriate.  A position with the team offers an opportunity to develop your clinical skills in all areas of postural and mobility assessments and related equipment prescription.  A flexible but organised approach is required to meet the varied needs of the client group.  The service is provided to paediatric and adult clients.  Clinicians within the Wheelchair Service are responsible for assessing for and prescribing paediatric buggies, standard and active user wheelchairs, specialist wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, associated postural seating and custom made seating.  We are an innovative and dynamic team that can support your training needs through our in-service training programme and attendance to relevant external courses.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
