Calling for dynamic, and motivated Highly specialist, Occupational Therapist, looking for an opportunity to work in an inpatient setting as part of   supportive, innovative and thriving community Neuro-rehabilitation service within one of the highest performing trusts in the country.

Our services:

The Community Neuro-Rehabilitation Team offers a comprehensive service to adults with neurological conditions living in the inner city boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark as part of Guys and St Thomas's Foundation Trust.

Due to service redesign we are in the position to offer an exciting opportunity for a band 7 highly specialist occupational therapist to work as part of our specialist, 2B bed based Neuro-rehabilitation team based at the Pulross Centre in Brixton.

You will be part of a team providing complex case management and therapy for patients with a neurological condition including stroke and spinal cord injury and progressive conditions , undergoing a period of intensive inpatient rehabilitation. You will provide a highly specialist occupational therapy service, working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team with whom you will be based.

At The Pulross centre in Brixton we are proud of our good reputation and the feedback that we receive from our patients and their families. We work closely with our nursing colleagues to promote delivery of a 24 hour approach to the rehabilitation experience. As well as providing daily therapy to match the standards for our designation as a 2B service, we provide group therapy programmes, self-directed activities and emphasis on self-management and self-efficacy. There is also a patient accessible garden providing the opportunity for activities and relaxation.

Our 2B neuro-rehabilitation service is linked with services at Kings College hospital as part of the Kings Health partnership. We benefit from the support of the neuro-rehabilitation consultants and have closes links with the neuro-rehabilitation teams based at Orpington hospital, both 2B and level 1 rehabilitation.The 2b team work closely with staff of St Thomas’ and Kings College Hospital’s as well as other providers and commissioners.. 

Our multi-disciplinary team consists of a Rehabilitation Consultant, a Clinical Manager, a consultant Clinical Neuro-Psychologist and Psychology Assistant, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, a Speech and Language Therapist, Rehabilitation Assistant, Social Workers and the Nursing team. There is also a GP visiting the ward who provides invaluable support. 

The 2B service is part of a much wider community neuro rehabilitation service that includes four other teams, the stroke service, the neuro conditions team, the Neuro Enhanced Transition Team (NETT) and a Neuro Navigator service. 

As part of our Service, you will be expected to contribute to multidisciplinary service development and improvement initiatives and will also be expected to supervise and support junior staff, and train others. 

You should have knowledge and awareness of evidence based assessments and treatment programmes, and good knowledge of the use of clinical outcome measures. You must possess excellent organisational, communication and problem solving skills, be skilled at working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, and be able to deliver high standards of clinical care, in order to achieve good outcomes for clients. You should demonstrate a willingness to accommodate future service changes and flexibility to work across different Trust sites and settings if so required.

This position would suit individuals keen to enhance their specialism in the rehabilitation of neurological conditions whilst developing strategic planning and managerial skills. As a B7 Occupational Therapist you will have significant postgraduate experience working with adults with neurological conditions and neuro rehabilitation. This would include neuro cognitive assessments and preferably splinting experience.
