Join us and become part of the most engaged workforce of any NHS trust in England, according to the latest national NHS Staff Survey results – for the second year running.

You will be joining a dynamic and forward-looking organisation in the heart of the capital where you can develop your career and broaden your horizons.

We think you will enjoy working for us but you don’t have to take our word for it – 79% of staff who took part in the latest national NHS Staff Survey would recommend Guy’s and St Thomas’ as a place to work.

The Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust offers general orthopaedic surgery including spinal surgery. The Physician Associate will be supporting a team of consultants, junior doctors and nursing staff and therapists within Trauma and Orthopaedics. The post holder must hold a science-related degree prior to graduating from an established UK Physician Associate Training programme, which follows the Department of Health’s Competence Curriculum Framework. The candidate would have to successfully passed the UK National Physician Associate Examination and should be registered with the Managed Voluntary Register for Physician Associates. Consideration will be given to appropriately qualified Physician Associates from the USA.

This is an innovative idea to give newly qualified or more experienced Physician Associates the chance to work across different areas of general surgery. The PA will spend time within the Hand and Wrist team and will have Educational Supervision along with appraisal set by the CPD handbook for PA’s.

You will assess and examine patients, manage a specific caseload of patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment, whilst exercising a high level of professional judgment and expertise when delivering care. You will be supervised by a designated consultant and work alongside a highly-trained and committed team of doctors and nurses, working collaboratively with other members of the clinical team within the Trust’s policies and clinical guidelines

It is expected that the Physician Associate will become involved in the activities of the Department, including review of inpatients, practical procedures and outpatient clinics. It would be envisaged that the role would be developed flexibly over time in accordance with the appointee’s ability and interests.

Successful applicants will undergo an induction programme to help them adapt their skills and knowledge to the service, under the supervision of the Physician Associate training consultant.

The posts would suit Physician Associates looking to work in a very exciting, very rewarding but demanding environment. Quick thinking, flexible and thorough professionals will find the post to their liking

Closing Date: 25th November 2018

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
