Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London’s best known teaching hospitals and employs over 13,650 staff and have over 2 million patient contacts a year. Our annual turnover is now £1.3 billion.

The Evelina Children’s Hospital is the first Children’s Hospital to be built in London for over a hundred years. We provide comprehensive health services from before birth, throughout childhood and into adult life. Within the trust there are 167 paediatric beds, with an additional 20 paediatric intensive care beds, 52 neonatal beds, 5 operating theatres plus 1 cardiac theatre. We have a full children’s imaging service, a kidney dialysis unit, outpatients and medical day care unit and a hospital school. The trust serves the large local paediatric population and provides tertiary referral services for the South Thames Region and beyond. Specialist paediatric services include: Allergy, Inherited Metabolic Disease (IMD), Neurology, Nephrology, Cardiology, Paediatric Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care & Special Care Baby Unit, Clinical Genetics, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Accident & Emergency, Allergy, Urology, ENT, Orthopaedics and Cleft Services. The trust provides the Regional Paediatric Intensive Care Retrieval Service.

This Paediatric Allergy Consultant post that has arisen due to growth in referrals to our service, resulting in the need to run further outpatient clinics and increase our day-unit activity. The Department of Paediatric Allergy is seeking a substantive (4 PA) Consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking team. The department was founded in 2006 and has grown rapidly since and is now the largest of its kind in the UK. We are currently involved in many exciting initiatives and are looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement this team and help keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.

The Department offers a wide and comprehensive range of services to children with allergic disorders. The new consultant will help run and develop these services and will undertake general outpatient sessions and activity on our day-unit. They will be expected to take an active role in research and to participate in the teaching programs of the department. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients.  This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends.  We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future.  As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.
