Applications are invited for 2 full-time [10 PA ] Consultant post in the Paediatric Intensive Care unit at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. The post-holder will be one of a team of 12 WTE paediatric intensivists. He/she will provide a specialist service to children requiring intensive care at the Evelina Children’s Hospital or secondary emergency retrieval with South Thames Retrieval Service. The post-holder will be part of the paediatric intensive care consultant on call rota, with 1:6 on call for the management of the intensive care and supervision of the South Thames Retrieval Service.

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Guys and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust is the regional lead PICU, serving the health needs of children in the South East quadrant of England, including London, south of the Thames. It forms an integral part of a large tertiary children’s hospital, which includes tertiary specialist services in neonatology, cardiology/cardiac surgery, neurology, nephrology, metabolic medicine, general paediatrics, paediatric surgery and clinical genetics.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide significant cover for the South Thames Retrieval Service including educational support of the service and the region. The South Thames Retrieval Service is integrated and staffed from the PICU. Day to day management of the service is one of the main responsibilities of the on-call consultant with support from other PICU colleagues. An active PICU and retrieval teaching programme to PICU retrieval nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors and the region’s nurses and doctors is ongoing.

Candidates should be from a paediatric background.  

Due to service requirements there is also the potential for an additional locum consultant post to be appointed at this interview.

The post will be based in the Evelina Children’s Hospital.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine or equivalent at interview stage.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
