A unique opportunity has been created in collaboration between two leading foundation trusts within the London area. We are looking for an exceptional individual to take up the paediatric transplant surgical fellowship within the London area.

The post is suitable for a surgeon in training or newly qualified consultant who wishes to gain specialist experience in paediatric transplantation. This will be an ideal role for anyone who wishes to progress to a consultant surgeon role with a focus on paediatric transplantation.

We are one of the world’s largest paediatric transplant units and specialize in complex recipients, 3D printing and antibody incompatible transplants. Collectively we perform one third of the paediatric transplants across the UK as well as being one of the largest adult services in the country. Great Ormond Street is a world class children’s hospital accepting many international referrals. Evelina London Children’s Hospital has a long history of transplant care in paediatrics including delivering the first paediatric kidney transplant in the UK.

We carry out 40-50 paediatric transplants a year and 250 in the adult unit. We are an MRC Centre for Transplantation and are part of a Biomedical Research Centre with world class laboratory and clinical research facilities.

The department boast some of the most advanced and forward thinking research programmes  worldwide. This includes both clinical research; including randomized controlled trials and translational research, including first in human studies.

The role will be based across Guy’s hospital, Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). This will include covering paediatric transplant lists at Evelina London and GOSH. We have a specialist paediatric vascular access service, which the fellow would be involved with, as well as emergency and elective peritoneal dialysis provision. Participation in multidisciplinary meetings and post transplant management will be incorporated into the job description.  There will also be the opportunity to support the adult transplant surgery service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ (GSTT) if desired.

You will also undertake a 1 in 10 or higher on-call rota: this on-call element will be non-resident on-call, with banding being confirmed at interview.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
