This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced production pharmacist to be appointed as Production Manager for the Trust pharmaceutical manufacturing unit. The unit is located on the Guy’s site and was fully commissioned only 5 years ago and consists of sterile and non sterile manufacturing cleanrooms with a wide range of product capabilities, QC testing labs with full QA support. There is a separate raw material store and dispensary, finished product store and order processing department. The whole service is provided by 44WTE staff with a mix of pharmacists, technicians, scientists, assistants, engineering and sales staff. There is a real sense of team working on the floor where the many different staff are valued for their expertise and role in supplying high quality medicines.

As well as providing a wide range of unlicensed medicines a large number of IMPs are manufactured and supplied for the Trust and externally.

Key objectives of this job are:
Lead and evaluate the production service and take responsibility to deliver on a range of operational, quality, efficiency and financial objectives
To work with the Trust commercial department and sales manager to develop the external sales base and customer communications
Oversee the work of the research and develop scientist to ensure product development meets patient and commercial needs
Line manage three senior pharmacists assigned to sterile, non sterile and IMP manufacture.
Ensure the production services are compliant with all regulatory requirements and run GMP and GCP inspection ready
Lead and motivate a team of staff to achieve their objectives and improve quality and efficiency through continuous improvement programes

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience of managing a pharmaceutical manufacturing service and a strong GMP & GCP compliance track record. A good understanding of critical manufacturing systems such as water, autoclaves and ventilation is desirable as is product formulation and stability. As important as the technical requirements, evidence of being able to lead, engage and motivate a wide range of staff to work effectively together is essential.
