Renal Matron Guernsey Renal Unit

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Renal Unit, in conjunction with Guernsey  Health & Social Care, is delighted to announce an exciting nursing opportunity within Guernsey for an 8a Matron to lead the renal unit. You will be employed by Guys’s and St Thomas’ Trust and based on the idyllic island of Guernsey where the Guernsey Renal Unit services include a seven station haemodialysis unit, pre-dialysis clinic, transplant follow-up clinic and potentially a home dialysis programme (haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis). Transplant and inpatient services are provided at Guy’s Renal Unit in London.

This unique post has been created to lead and co-ordinate the provision of Renal services on the island of

Guernsey. You will have specific responsibility for managing the dialysis service, continuing service development for the pre-dialysis programme and home dialysis programme as patient demand dictates, with overall management responsibility for the training and development of the renal nursing team.

You will have support of the senior nursing team at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust with access to professional development and training opportunities.

This is a demanding and rewarding post for the right candidate. You should be highly motivated and passionate about renal nursing and will:

  • Monitor and maintain clinical best practice standards within renal dialysis and the outpatient clinics
  • Ensure excellent patient experience and responding swiftly to any concerns
  • Uphold effective multi-professional team relationships with medical, nursing and admin teams both in Guernsey and within Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust.
  • Managing risk and governance across the Guernsey Renal Unit ensuring patient safety
  • Clinical, visible leadership and line management of a team of nurses 

Information on relocation to Guernsey

A one off relocation payment of up to £3,600 may be available for non-local staff (those staff required to re-locate Guernsey).  Relocation is paid directly by the Off-Island & Visiting Services Team at GHSC with copies of receipts as required. Liaison for relocation and expenses should take place between the Matron of the renal dialysis unit and the Off Island and Visiting Consultant team in the first instance

All Grade 5 and above employees are awarded a rent allowance, which has been included in the cost summary.  A rent allowance will not be payable for those staff accommodated in GHSC accommodation.  Rent Allowances will be reviewed six monthly as a variable cost and GHSC may request a refund for any rent allowances not used in the previous six months.
