The OOPE/Senior Clinical Fellow will be required to provide direct clinical care in to patients in the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit at St Thomas'. In this post, you will working closely with the Lane Fox consultants and senior nursing team. The post is EWTD compliant and regular monitoring is mandatory.

The Lane Fox Respiratory Service is a national and international referral centre for weaning, rehabilitation and long-term ventilation and this service is closely aligned with the GSTT Critical Care Department. The Lane Fox Respiratory Unit (LFU) and Lane Fox REMEO Respiratory Service (LFRC) provides invasive and non-invasive management of chronic respiratory failure in two purpose built units. LFU is a 14-bed unit, established in 1989, and is based at St Thomas’ Hospital and functions as a Respiratory Intensive Care and Weaning Unit and LFRC is a 20-bed unit and serves lower acuity patients with significant weaning delay and failure. The Lane Fox Respiratory Service provide inpatient care for those failing to 'wean' from invasive ventilation following critical illness.

We also investigate chronic respiratory failure resulting from a variety of causes such as:
• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• neuromuscular disease (for example Duchenne muscular dystrophy and motor neuron disease)
• chest wall disease (for example scoliosis)
• chronic respiratory failure related to obesity.

We support a large population (over 1,500 patients) in the use of non-invasive ventilation at home and an increasing number of tracheostomy ventilated patients.

We are unique in the UK as we provide a 24-hour medical, nursing and technical back up service for assisting patients who are experiencing difficulty with their ventilatory equipment, especially in the home environment.

The Lane Fox REMEO Respiratory Centre is a partnership between REMEO Ltd, a subsidiary of BOC. This state of the art facility is based within the grounds of East Surrey Hospital and is supported by the Lane Fox Consultant Team including Dr Nicholas Hart (Clinical and Academic Director), Dr Joerg Steier, Dr Philip Marino and Dr Patrick Murphy. This facility is the first weaning and rehabilitation centre in the UK to incorporate a telemedicine programme with direct communication links between Lane Fox Unit at St Thomas’ and the Lane Fox REMEO Respiratory Centre at Redhill.

Closing date: 22/07/2018, by midnight.
