Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Severe Asthma. This position aims to provide specialist training in severe asthma for a respiratory physician hoping to work in this field in their future career. It also has a significant research component The post is for a fixed term contract of one year duration however there candidates will have the option to extend for a second year if the candidate wishes to undertake a doctoral MD programme through King's College London, from the outset.

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust is one of the UK's leading health institutions and has one of the largest asthma units in England seeing over 1000 new asthmatics each year. It is responsible for providing tertiary level severe asthma care to a population of 4 million people across South London, Kent and East Sussex. Additionally the Intensive Care Unit at St Thomas' Hospital retrieves patients with near-fatal asthma for ECMO support from across South East England and is the largest service of its kind in the UK.

The successful candidate will be offered training in the out-patient management of severe asthma including the use of biologic agents, the in-patient management of near-fatal asthma requiring ECMO, as well as specialist training in the care of patients with eosinophilic lung disease including designated clinics in eosinophilic vasculitis. The candidate will be encouraged to take part in clinical and/or translational asthma research with support from asthma academics within the MRC & Asthma UK Centre based at Guy's Hospital. The job plan will allow sufficient time to complete an MD thesis over two years.

Applicants will hold Specialist Registrar status within GSTT and should hold MRCP and have reached at least ST5 (or post-CCT) in respiratory medicine.
