Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join a large, well-established and innovative multidisciplinary Neuro Rehabilitation team as part of our Band 6 neuro rotation scheme. The Community Neuro-Rehabilitation Service offers a comprehensive specialist service to adults with neurological conditions living in the inner city boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark as part of Guys and St Thomas's Foundation Trust. Staff across the two boroughs work together to ensure high quality, client-centred, responsive and efficient services for patients.

There are three community pathways within the neuro rehab service: Stroke, Neuro Conditions and NeuroRehab Enhanced Transition Team (NETT), as well as 6 in-patient neuro rehab beds and a neuro-navigation service. Intervention is goal oriented and we use a self-management approach encouraging patients to participate actively in their rehab.

We are looking for someone with an interest in community rehabilitation to provide a specialist Speech and Language Therapy service, including assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing problems, work closely with other members of the neuro rehabilitation team and other health and social care teams, and contribute to multidisciplinary service improvement initiatives. The rotations currently include working as part of the Stroke Team, Neuro Conditions and the in-patient rehab beds.

This position would suit someone keen to enhance their skills in the rehabilitation of neurological conditions within a forward looking service. You will have postgraduate experience working with adults with neurological conditions.

There are opportunities for joint working with other professionals and teams. Staff are well-supported through supervision and the appraisal process and have access to a planned programme of inservice training in addition to the benefits of belonging to Guys and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust and Kings Health Partners, an Academic Healthcare Centre .

Closing date: 27th June at midnight
Interviews are likely to be held on Friday 6th July 2018

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
