Locum Consultant in Thoracic Surgery

£76,761 p.a. excl. of LZ

Full Time – 10PA’s

Fixed term - 6 month (with possibility to extend)

The Thoracic Surgery department is seeking to recruit a full-time (10 PA) Locum Consultant to join a dynamic, first class and progressive central London team. The post will initially be for 6 months, with potential scope to extend this further.

The Thoracic Surgery department at Guy’s Hospital is one of the largest in the UK and has strong Network links throughout South East London and South East England. We are a strong department, being a positive UK outlier for lung cancer surgery outcomes, based on surgical excellence embedded in excellent nursing, physio and critical care.  There is a departmental emphasis on minimally invasive surgery and the applicants would be expected to have a strong track record in this. We are also proud of our reputation as a training centre, and proven good training outcomes would be an advantage.

We are also a harmonious department, and are seeking a surgeon whom we are confident will contribute to our positive departmental ethos.

The job involves travelling to peripheral MDTs as well as work at the hub of Guy’s hospital and our in house MDTs and clinics.  There is occasional joint work with surgical teams from ENT and upper GI surgery.

A keen awareness of how best to keep up with lung cancer pathway targets, without sacrificing care quality, is vital, with an ability to work flexibly towards this end.

Please apply online quoting reference number LCON375.

Closing date: 20/03/2018, by midnight.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
