Two Posts ST6+ - Guy’s & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery
Starting – February 2019

Applications are invited from orthopaedic and neurosurgical trainees who are interested in further specialist training in spinal surgery. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for suitable trainees to obtain hands-on experience of orthopaedic and neurological spinal surgery, including spinal trauma, spinal tumours, degenerative conditions, management and surgery of spinal deformity for adults and children, intradural and intramedullary tumours, Chiari malformations, syringomyelia and craniocervical junction pathologies.

This fellowship is for Surgeons who wish to become dedicated Spinal Consultants.

This is an eighteen month Fellowship (nine months at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust and nine months at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery under the supervision of the spinal neurosurgeons). The post commences 5th February 2019 (start date may be flexible) and is open to EEA or international trainees who have completed at least four years of specialist registrar (resident) training in orthopaedics or neurosurgery. NTN/VTN holders will need the written agreement of their postgraduate deanery to bring their training number with them. For those who wish to undertake the post as an LAT, up to one year may subsequently count towards the award of CCT on the advice of the Royal College of Surgeons from whom recognition must be obtained prospectively. An LAT may be filled by overseas doctors and UK/EEA trainees who wish to pursue part of their higher specialist training in the UK.

All candidates should be eligible for registration with the GMC and possess FRCS (Orth&Tr or Neuro) or equivalent.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
