Join us and become part of the most engaged workforce of any NHS trust in England, according to the latest national NHS Staff Survey results – for the second year running.

You will be joining a dynamic and forward-looking organisation in the heart of the capital where you can develop your career and broaden your horizons.

We think you will enjoy working for us but you don’t have to take our word for it – 79% of staff who took part in the latest national NHS Staff Survey would recommend Guy’s and St Thomas’ as a place to work.

Vacancies have arisen within our maternity unit which gives newly qualified midwives the opportunity to apply to work at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Please note this advert applies to student midwives due to qualify in March 2019

Our maternity unit is based at St Thomas’ Hospital with fantastic views of River Thames and Houses of Parliament and we serve a diverse population of women referred for both low and high risk pregnancies. We offer a variety of speciality services which enables the opportunity to learn about managing complications arising in pregnancies aiming to promote normality.

We have a strong working relationship with all members of the multidisciplinary team to assist with providing a high standard of care to our women.

Our Practice Development Midwives are available to support you further in your career and help you maintain your professional competence.

You have the option to apply to work in the birthing and inpatient areas as a rotation midwife which is an ideal position to consolidate and gain all round midwifery experience. The rotation will include the antenatal ward, our birthing centre (midwifery and obstetric led) and the postnatal ward.

All successful applicants are offered a preceptorship programme as a band 5. If appointed you will be expected to work as a rotation midwife whilst you are completing your one year programme and achieving your core competencies.

The preceptorship programme will include additional study days such as high fidelity simulation, perineal suturing, band 5 development day, antenatal screening, and infant feeding and PROMPT

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
