An exciting opportunity for an experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Histology has arisen in the Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory based within Tissue Sciences at King’s College Hospital.

Applications are invited from an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist who possesses an extensive level of histology practical experience in immunocytochemistry. Molecular experience is desirable but not essential.
This is a post, which will be permanently based in the Advanced Diagnostics Section of the Tissue Sciences Laboratory.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform specialised techniques including immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence, enzyme histochemistry, in-situ hybridisation, DNA extraction, DNA quality control assessments, Pyrosequencing, capillary electrophoresis and real-time PCR.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further extend their molecular pathology techniques by being involved in Next Generation Sequencing.

Experience using the Ventana Benchmark Ultra and Leica Bond III platforms is desirable for the candidate as well as experience in molecular pathology techniques in histopathology.

Tissue Sciences at King’s College Hospital has the privilege to work together with other hospitals and organisations to form the South London NHS Genomic Medicine Centre, which has been established to help deliver the 100,000 Genomes Project to patients and families with cancer or rare diseases. The project will help create a new genomic medicine service for the NHS, which aims to transform patient care and offer new and improved targeted treatments.
The successful candidate will be involved in delivering the 100,000 Genomes project in collaboration with the Molecular Pathology Department.

Other duties include participating in external quality assessments, supervising and training new staff, new test development, research studies, stock procurement, quality management and health and safety audits.
