Working in partnership with our service partners, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, King’s College Hospital, Bedford NHS Hospital Trusts, and Princess Royal University Hospital we aim to set the standard for the future of pathology.


Based in London, the post holder will operate in the busy Viapath Laboratories at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking a proactive, motivated and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, ideally having already completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology & Hospital Transfusion or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.

You will be expected to work in the Haematology & Haemostasis section of the Blood Science Laboratory as part of the shift system, which will include working through the night and at weekends which is an integral part of this post.

The Blood Science Laboratory is fully automated using the Siemens Advia 2120 & Stago range of analysers including the Labcell Track.

The post holder will assist in the provision of a comprehensive and appropriate Out of Hours diagnostic service to users through the performance and interpretation of manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations for the Blood Sciences Laboratory Services.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring operational functionality of the Haematology & Coagulation work areas in the Blood Sciences Laboratory.

Responsibilities also include authorisation and release of Haematology & Coagulation results in the Blood Sciences Laboratory.

To maintain at all times the required high standards and quality and an up to date knowledge of Haematology & Haemostasis theory and current working practices, including technical problem solving of analytical equipment.

We are UKAS accredited to ISO 15189 standards and are an IBMS accredited training labaoratory for both Registration & Specialist Portfolios plus the Certificate of Achievement. Kings is a major trauma centre, specialist teaching hospital involved in all the Specilaities including Haemato-oncology, Renal, Foetal Medicine and has one of the largest Liver transplant centres in Europe.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
