Working in partnership with our service partners, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, King’s College Hospital, Bedford NHS Hospital Trusts, and Princess Royal University Hospital we aim to set the standard for the future of pathology.


This permanent Senior Biomedical Scientist post Band 7 offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced BMS to further develop their specialist knowledge and skills in Clinical Biochemistry. You will be part of a team that provides specialist service delivery using the latest technologies in the Biochemical Sciences department at St Thomas’ Hospital. The department comprises four laboratories; Newborn Screening Laboratory for the South East Thames region, Reference Chemistry, Purine Research Laboratory and the Inherited Metabolic Disease (IMD) Laboratory. This is a rotational post starting in the Reference Chemistry Laboratory.

Applicants should have previous laboratory experience and evidence of routine use of chromatographic techniques (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, HPLC), Protein electrophoresis, Molecular techniques and manual assays including maintaining and troubleshooting semi-automated instruments. Knowledge of Clinical Biochemistry laboratory tests and sample types is essential.

This post is for a line management as well as technical abilities, so managing a team of different skill set of staff will be required for this role.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
