This is an exciting opportunity to join the Biochemical Sciences department within Viapath, based at St Thomas’ Hospital. The department comprises five sections: Newborn Screening, Reference Chemistry, Inherited Metabolic Diseases, Immunosuppressant service and the Purine Research Laboratory and the successful candidate would rotate through all areas.

As a state registered Biomedical Scientist, ideally with experience in a Biochemistry laboratory, the post holder is responsible for the delegated tasks required for the delivery of a fit-for-purpose medical laboratory service analysing and reporting on blood, urine, faeces and other body materials to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care. The post holder will be required to undertake their responsibilities within any of the sections of Biochemical Sciences. The post holder will manage and prioritise workloads in their area, including troubleshooting and problem solving as necessary, referring to Senior Biomedical Scientists as required and will be expected to participate in the weekend rota.

You must have a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent, must have HCPC state registration and have the IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent. You must have good communication skills and be able to use your initiative and work independently. Evidence of Continued Professional Development must be demonstrated.

You will undertake an individual training programme, to ensure you have the necessary competence for effective performance. The department is fully committed to continued professional and personal development and provides support for all members of staff to maximise their full potential.

Interviews will be held July 13, 2017

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
