The place to work in pathology

We are looking for top talent to join the UK’s leading and fastest growing pathology company – a scientific organisation with a clinical purpose.

Working in partnership with our service partners, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, King’s College Hospital, Bedford NHS Hospital Trusts, and Princess Royal University Hospital we aim to set the standard for the future of pathology.

Biomedical / Clinical Scientist – Band 6 / 7 AfC equivalent.

Clinical Transplantation Laboratory, Viapath, Guys Hospital.

Viapath’s Clinical Transplantation Laboratory (CTL), based at Guy’s Hospital, are looking for a Biomedical or Clinical Scientist to join our team on a permanent basis.

What’s on offer:

Found in zone one of Central London, and next to London Bridge station, CTL enjoys a central and easily accessible location with excellent transport links.

Our co-location with the MRC Centre for Transplantation and Kings College London allows good opportunities for academic links with those at the forefront of transplantation research, supporting your professional development.

Viapath is committed to training and development through the organisation’s Scientific Learning and Development fund, allowing permanent members of staff the opportunity to apply for funding towards a variety of qualifications (e.g MSc, BSc, FRCPath), and national and international conferences.

Locally delivered personal and career development courses are also available through ‘The Viapath Way Development Programme’.

Funding for smaller research projects can also be provided through the Innovation Fund, with the annual Innovation Academy Symposium showcasing innovative research throughout the organisation.

We have the tools for you to grow.

How you will qualify:

As an established Biomedical or Clinical Scientist you will have knowledge and experience in HLA typing, flow cytometric crossmatching and Luminex based HLA antibody analysis. You will be expected to rotate through all areas of the laboratory and participate in the 24/7 on call service provision.

You will be able to take initiative and prioritise workload, comfortably working alone and as part of a team.

The ideal candidate will be HCPC registered, with relevant post-graduate experience and have completed the BSHI diploma, STP training or the IBMS certificate of competence.

However, applications will be considered from individuals who have completed the BSHI diploma and are ready to submit for state registration, or are in their final year of STP.

State registration will be required prior to progression from the probationary period of the contract.

A little about us:

Accredited both to ISO 15189 and EFI standards, the Viapath CTL, based at Guys Hospital, is one of the busiest laboratories supporting solid organ transplantation in the UK, supporting approximately 400 solid organ transplants a year.

We provide a comprehensive H&I service for a number of adult and paediatric transplant centres across the South East for a variety of renal, pancreas, islet, liver and multi-visceral transplant programmes.

Acting as a referral centre for both national and international cases, we work closely with the Guys Hospital Renal Transplant team to provide advice on a range of highly complex transplant scenarios, including through an active ABO and HLA antibody incompatible transplant programme. In addition we carry out HLA and disease association testing, support stem cell transplantation and Chimerism analysis, and provide support for a number of research groups.
