The place to work in pathology

We are looking for top talent to join the UK’s leading and fastest growing pathology company – a scientific organisation with a clinical purpose.

Working in partnership with our service partners, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, King’s College Hospital, Bedford NHS Hospital Trusts, and Princess Royal University Hospital we aim to set the standard for the future of pathology.

Looking for that work-life balance.

Interested in a shift pattern which will enable you to work a compressed week.

Want to be recognized and valued for the work you do?

As a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, we want you to join us and our team at Viapath and our Microbiology section at St Thomas’ Hospital. This section is part of the wider Viapath Infection Sciences Department and is based close to mainline commuter hubs such as Waterloo, and by tube at Westminster. The South bank not that far away.

Work Life Balance:

You will join a compressed rota, working an average of 37.5 hours per week. The shift pattern you will eventually join is a rolling 10 week rota which will include core hours, some weekends and nights – however, you will also enjoy up to four consecutive rest days, allowing you extended time with family and friends!

What support do you get?

Working at an equivalent Band 6, you will have already obtained your IBMS Specialist Portfolio and be in a position to work autonomously. We do offer though, unparalleled Professional Development through our Innovation Academy and the Scientific Learning and Development fund, whereby we financially support you in future qualifications.

Through the Innovation Fund we will also sponsor you to develop new methods and investigations, getting your ideas from the drawing board to practical application, making a tangible difference to our patients and customers by improving the service we provide. To date we have paid out over £160’000 supporting over 30 projects.

We will also provide the necessary time and resources whilst your career is developed here at Viapath and for you to maintain your CPD.

A little about the Microbiology Department

The Microbiology Department receives approximately 330,000 bacteriological specimens per year. The department currently uses the Clinsys Winpath computer LIMS system and Q-Pulse. The Department also has a range of automation including the Bruker MALDI-TOF, Vitek, BD FX, BDMAX, the Sedimax Urine analyser, the DS2 and Cepheid GeneXpert system.

The team is 47 strong and with you joining, we will have 10 on the 24/7 rota. We have a journal club and we encourage participation in our charity events, such as our Quality Day, Cake Sales and Christmas Jumper day. The team also enjoys regular interaction with the Clinicians and to further enhance your development, we encourage you to take part in our Quality, training and Health and Safety teams.

Interviews will be held December 6, 2018.
