Start dates:

Post 1 1st August 2019

Post 2 1st February 2020

Applications are invited for two Senior Clinical Fellows in Paediatric Infectious Diseases/Immunology and General Paediatrics. One post to commence on the 1st August 2018 and the second post to commence on 1st February 2019. The posts are based at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, at Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will gain paediatric infectious diseases/immunology, general paediatric and paediatric AED experience. On-call duties are late shifts and are at middle grade level in paediatric infectious diseases/immunology, general paediatrics, gastroenterology, diabetes and endocrinology, haemoglobinopathy, respiratory, neurology, nephrology and metabolic. No nights on-call. This post is not recognised for training by the RCPCH but the training opportunities available are similar to those for ST4-8.

Previous middle-grade experience is essential; applicants must have completed at least 2 years' ST1-3-level paediatrics or equivalent.

The successful applicant will join six PIID consultants (3 WTE), one other clinical fellow and the world class Directorate of Infection team (12 microbiology / virology / adult infection consultants) in delivering a seamless and highly responsive ward-based infection consult and clinical advice service. They will provide PIID support to the wide-range of specialist children’s services based at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

The PIID team deliver PIID inpatient consults, paediatric OPAT (outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy), infection control, antimicrobial stewardship, acute/complex infection, HIV, TB, congenital infection and primary/secondary immunodeficiency clinics.

The post-holder will be expected to help keep the Evelina London at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence, and to participate in the teaching programs of the department.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London’s best known teaching hospitals and employs over 12,500 staff and over 1 million patient contacts a year.

ELCH admits over 25,000 patients per year of which over 8,000 are non-elective admissions; over the past year alone both elective and non-elective admitted activity have increased by an average of 8%. This growth is anticipated to continue into the coming years. ELCH has a broad reaching transformational programme entitled Fit for the Future, which aims to enhance patient and family care and also has major capital plans to develop additional physical capacity to meet this demand. In addition to this over 125,000 outpatients attend ELCH each year.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a License to Practice, or be at least eligible for registration (overseas candidates).

The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal convictions.

As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future.

Evelina London Children’s Hospital was previously rated as ‘outstanding’ by the CQC, and is committed to providing excellent care to patients and families.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive and dynamic team and be part of the innovative future of children’s healthcare across South London.

Please note that we will only accept online applications.

Applicant requirements

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
