Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is made up of two of London’s best known teaching hospitals and employs over 13,650 staff and has over 2 million patient contacts a year. Our annual turnover is now £1.3 billion.

The Department of Ageing and Health at GSTT is seeking to recruit 2 new consultants to join our dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking team of highly motivated and dedicated geriatricians.
One of the posts has been established to support an innovative locality model of care for older adults across Lambeth and Southwark. This is a new post and offers an exciting opportunity to lead, develop and deliver a seamless service across hospital and community settings, integrating with primary care and social services as well as working in our “front door” service in the emergency floor for frail older adults.
The other post provides an exciting opportunity to join the innovative GOLD team that recently won a BMJ award for its CGA approach to older adults receiving treatment for cancer. This new service is looking to expand; increasing it’s capacity to see greater numbers of cancer patients that would benefit from this novel approach, developing new pathways for inpatients and out patients and strengthening the supporting research evidence base.
All the post holders will contribute to an elderly medicine on call rota which includes on site weekend working in our new Acute Older Persons Unit in the Emergency floor and may be asked to contribute to General medicine.
Candidates are not expected to have received higher level subspecialty training in community geriatric medicine or geriatric-oncology but should demonstrate enthusiasm and track record in innovative service delivery and evaluation, in education and training and in quality improvement programmes. All candidates will have the opportunity to be involved in education and training for under and postgraduates and in establishing research programmes.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine or equivalent at interview stage.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.

We actively invite interested candidates to approach us for informal discussions and/or visits.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
